THE GOOD MAN JESUS AND THE SCOUNDREL CHRIST

Art Direction

This is the fictional story of the Good Man Jesus, and his Scoundrel brother, Christ. It retells the story of the gospel and the relationship between two twin brothers. A controversial comment on religion.

Whilst working for Canongate Books Mark suggested a quietly confident and luxurious design, typographically led to give it authority and character.

He commissioned Jamie Keenan, a legend in the field of book cover design. When we had gone through the obligatory crosses and crowns of thorns, we settled on a simple typographic design.

To mirror the duality in the story, Mark suggested a white edition (good) and a black edition (bad), both with gold foil and a ribbon to reflect traditional bible design.

The cover was nominated by the D&AD in their Book Design Category in 2011.
