Tamasin Day-Lewis had massive success with her cookbooks over the last ten years or so, from The Art of the Tart to Tamasin’s Kitchen Bible to name only two.
Unbound published her latest book, Smart Tart, early in 2014 to great success. We were lucky enough to design the cover and Art Direct the internal illustrations by the very talented John Broadley.
Part memoir, part cookbook, you really want to eat this edition. The clean text design and photography provided by Tappin Gofton of Shoreditch, makes her simple food and simple writing come alive.
The cover concept sees Tamasin standing proud on the top of the tart surrounded by objects and ingredients integral to the book. The endpapers are designed to echo the classic lattice work found on top of traditional tarts and pies, whilst each section of the book is headed by a themed spot illustration, printed black on a rich colour chosen to echo the theme.
Mmmmmm. Makes us hungry…
