How do you keep a low profile when you’re on the run with an elephant?
An enchanting story by Gillian Cross, of Demon Headmaster fame, for Oxford University Press. The brief was to reinvent the cover for a new audience, and get the book trade interested in this lesser-known book of Gillian’s.
We nailed this cover in the first round, with a photo-illustrative solution showing Khush the Indian elephant and the kids in their boat. We spent a good deal of time however getting Shadow Cat right, the other book in this brief. A contemporary book, it had to relate to The Great Elephant Chase but feel fresher. We chose to lose the paper texture in the background and give more emphasis to the author branding.
More children’s work please, we love it (mainly because we’re, well, grown-up kids).
